And it proved again that with my tendency to be attracted to the good even in things I'm not a fan of, I can be slowly drawn into being a fan.
For Adventure Time, which I criticized months ago for being just a little too slow for a show brought up on the random humor and just being so uninteresting that I personally could not stand sitting through any episodes, it was the whole story of Simon Petrikov that got me into the show.
I kept seeing fanart everywhere with a little Marceline and a man I didn't recognize and decided to dig deeper. And God that...that backstory...it's dramatic, it's tragic, it's amazingly moving and the effects it had on those is the present is all the same.
When Marceline reads the notes from him...the one that's apologizing to her and saying that it's the crown and he's sorry beforehand for the times when he'll forget about her...
I got the same feels from the two of them...When I saw that episode, I was DROWNING IN FEELINGS. I CAN'T. I JUST CAN'T.
I've had some deep emotional reactions from other shows, but out of all the cartoons I've ever watched, "Adventure Time" was the only one that actually made me cry. I could spend hours talking about all the feels I get from this show.
I had the same opinions as you did before I actually gave it a shot, because the childish style of the show turned me off for a few years. But with the hype on it, I decided to try it out. And once you get past the kooky, childish feel of it...This shit is good. • The backstories of the characters • The nuclear war ("Mushroom War") for the backstory of the show in general • The characters doing the most unexpected things (PB being a princess AND a science-genius that kicks ass and takes names later, Ice King not always being the bad guy, Marceline not being an emo, blood-sucking vampire, etc.) • The random humor, especially when it's a bit adult-orientated (Finn: "Well, this ant's about to get in his pants!" "NOBODY FLICKS ME IN THE BUTT WITHOUT PERMISSION!") • PREGNANCY. THERE'S PREGNANCY IN IT.
...I could go on with that list. And I never knew the voice actor for the Ice King was Tom Kenny, who does Spongebob.
I actually have to say the same myself! I mean, well, my interest in it had just barely started after years of ignoring it and being slightly judgmental about it, but that story just pulled me right in! (Except I found out back when Holly Jolly Secrets came out... XD)
