Mostly inspired by a little thing that's happening on here. The guy who made Flapjack let out they're making a new show called Sanjay and Craig. It's just your typical run of the mill 'dog and his pet go on wacky stupid adventures'. Naturally, people of the media world immediately grabbed onto the 'I'm going to complain about something I've only seen in a couple of promos' and many people are claiming...and I quote:
two main characters rips off Finn and Jake (Two best friends, one human one animal, doing stupid shit. That only happens in Adventure Time, right?) The noses have copied from Regular Show, Two main characters ripped off Finn and Jake and her girlfriend's voice ripped off Margaret. I can't actually find the quote but there's also a complaint that it's a rip of Bob's Burgers in design.
...when some of the people on board are making this show.
...aye, this kid.
Not just that though. There are plenty of stupid claims of apparent ripping off on this site, and on other places.
Like the one time this girl actually continually harassed and threatened to sue another girl because she referenced a mouth from one her pictures; to make it more amusing the girl who had her artwork apparently 'stolen' actually stole almost every frame of her comic from the Hellsing manga.
Then you got the worst of the bunch on DA...the furry OCs.
Alright, the norm for a lot of fursonas and wolf/dog/cat OC's is this; they always have one of the following colours: dark purple, normal purple, black, any sort of neon colour, white, light blue. And more normally than not they'll have stripes, whether on their back, their tail, or all over their body. I've seen the same generic OC a million times over...and I've seen people claim that the colour pattern has been stolen from their own totally original OC a million times.
Theeen you got everything else. People stole your pose (even though many people recognize poses in the back of their head from things they've seen before and don't remember it; and that you can't fucking copyright a POSE), people stole your design all together just because they look a little alike, people stole what clothing you use on your OC, people stole your accessories from your OC, people stole your colour scheme...the list goes on of what people have accused others of stealing from them, and it just gets more stupid with each apparent stolen thing.
Just...do I even need a nutshell for this one?
This also can apply for other things. I still think a lot of things about The Lion King and Jungle Emperor Leo is sketchy, but it was years ago and I don't think TLK was a rip off of Leo. It was supposed to be a homage that...went through a lot of background work I guess. Honestly the only thing that ever made me go 'eeeeh' was how Disney denied all knowledge of Kimba when they just could have said originally it was supposed to be their version.
The 'Dog and his pet (I think you mean, 'kid', not 'dog')' theme is also a very common theme among cartoons. It's been around forever, it won't change.
You should also look into the creators of two shows with similar stories/art/characters before assuming they they've been stolen or ripped off. Most of the time they're similar due to the fact that one or more creators worked on the same series.
You have everything from anime to theatre on there.
As for copying poses, that's just silly. Most people have to sit in chairs, so you can't copyright all the chair-sitting poses, because these poses are prevalent in real life. Not to mention that judges and juries have better things to do than settle a million and one copyright claims over two artworks sharing a pose.
Yeah... Some people even think one of my fave Disney cartoons named "Camp Lakebottom" is a rip-off to "Gravity Falls".
1. Camp Lakebottom
2. Phineas and Ferb
3 Gravity Falls
There are A LOT of differences between GF and CLB.
1. There are two children in GF, but siblings, while in CLB, 3, but friends.
2. Dipper and Mabel are in a TOWN, but (I don't remember that boy's name with a semi-brown hair and a blue T-shirt), Gretchen and Squirt are in a CAMP.
3. There are three special people in both shows, Stan is the founder of the Mystery Shack, Wendy is the janitress and Soos is the handiman. The three other people in that camp, are counselors (I only remember Sawyer, that zombie dude, which is also a handiman). One is a chef, and that sasquatch guy, I don't know.
I have a story similar to that that happened on another site where this one girl accused me of "copying" her and blocked me without giving me a chance to respond. What happened was my written signature was similar to hers (it was a simple border of ~.~.~.~ and * bulletins for what I was saying which was different from her words. Something simple) and she leaves "you copied my signature. you're blocked" on my profile. I didn't even know this girl and had to explain to a mutual friend (that i learned that knew her) to straighten everything out while she kept saying how "lazy" i am for not "creating my own signature" -_- It was a wall of text with symbols from the keyboard, how can you "copy" something so simple from a person you don't even know?
And don't get me started on the poses "copying". I knew a guy who reported his friend on DA for "copying poses" and kept calling the guy a "thief", and was right out a jerk to his friend even though his friend tried logically explaining it's not copying.
I'll stop ranting now. But simply, I agree 100% with your stamp. I've never seen so much reporting and accusing over the simplest things.
